SORNed Vehicle On The DVLA Website

If the vehicle has been SORNed (Statutory Off Road Notification) then you'll see something like this:

DVLA vehicle checker where your car has been SORNed

How A Scrapped Vehicle Will Appear On The DVLA Website

If a vehicle has in all likelihood been scrapped at some point then it may look like this:

DVLA vehicle checker where your car has probably been scrapped

You can see here that the vehicle was last taxed in 1980/1981 and that the DVLA hold no MOT records for it.

Unless it is MOT exempt, as vehicles manufactured pre-1960 and this will change to vehicles over 40 years old in May 2018.

If your car is listed on the DVLA website at least as untaxed then it means they hold some information about it. See the later section regarding contacting the DVLA about getting hold of information.
