I purchased this from Surrey in 2012 and drove it back which was over 200 miles, this proved to be a little tricky as it suffered from the notorious floppy gear stick and find gears was a task in itself. I decided to do a resto on it as there was quite a bit of corrosion to the lower panels and chassis. I replaced the whole bottom 12" changed the colour as well as the upholstery to give it a fresh look and to keep yet another classic vw on the road. It took me a couple of months or so to complete as everything was done from home and nothing was farmed out to third parties. Sold it on later in the year to a nice young man from the Oxford area, I'm assuming he still has it.

Volkswagen T2 1600Added by Brian from Stoke of Staffordshire
The chap I purchased this from told me he had driven it back to the UK from Hungry. Paper work confirmed it being registered in the UK so I had no reason to disbelieve him. Once I got it back home (Stoke on Trent) I could give it a real good inspection and found the bottom 12i nch or so needed some TLC along with the cab floor and front wheel arches. As my step son had his restro in my garage,I had to do this one in my yard which was ok when it was sunny but not so good when cold and wet. I managed to get it all welded and prepared to a reasonable standard and decided to change the color as well as the interior. I resprayed it in a nice bright orange with a white top half. Next was the interior and after obtaining some quotes for the upholstery (unbelievably expensive) I decided to buy a industrial sewing machine and have a go myself as I felt this was a cheaper option. I started to do a few bits and bobs with the machine and once I thought I was at a stage where I could tackle the interior, I went for it. Big difference from 750 upward to 40 quid and do it yourself. Not a bad job even if I say so myself, certainly worth a go anyway. And there we are, one mediocre restoration complete, not concourse, but certainly presentable in my eyes.Posted at 8.24am Sat July 16th 2016
