Sunbeam Alpine 2 seater sports car in pale blue with removeable hard top

Added by Anonymous of Lancashire

My mother owned this car from new (1964). She lent it to me to go on my honeymoon to Bournemouth in March 1967. (I am now 72). There were no motorways then so it meant an overnight stay in Lichfield (a long way from north Manchester in those days) then Cirencester, Salisbury, to Bournemouth. It had a 1725cc petrol engine and was easily capable of 70mph. In the absence of motorways this was quite a high speed at the time. It subsequently suffered a cylinder head leak (not as a result of my borrowing it, I hasten to add) due probably due to it having an alloy cylinder head and cast iron block. It was repaired but my mother sold it in part ex for an MG C, a 6 cylinder automatic which went like stink. My wife and I (that was a novel phrase at the time) were treated with great respect by the hotel we stayed at. It looked good on their forecourt and they were happy to house the removeable roof when weather permitted. Happy days.
